My sad sunflowers
Today started out cool and sunny but by the afternoon it had turned cloudy and this evening we got a couple of light rain showers. Hopefully more rain will come tonight.
I got my house cleaning done before lunch and after lunch I went through some old bills and papers so I could do some more shredding. I filled up another bag and still have more papers for shredding. I'll save the rest for another day. :-)
We went out to eat this evening with our friends Jackie and Kerry. Jackie is now back from Japan after a month there with work and she brought me back this little wooden doll. It's called a Kokeshi Doll. I think it is the cutest thing and I love it. I think Jackie has gotten me started on another collection!!
Kokeshi was first made in the northern provinces of Japan about 150 years ago. Kokeshi was originally made as a toy for children of farmers. It developed into a modern craft from a simple toy as the countryside developed culturally. Having outgrown the status of being a toy for children, Kokeshi is now recognized as one of the traditional folk arts in Japan. Kokeshi is handmade by skilled craftsmen entirely from wood-cutting to painting.
We watched another episode of Dexter and I had cookies and milk for my snack. Then I did a little more knitting. After I finish with the computer I will read some more until bedtime.
I hope your Wednesday was a happy one!!

The sunflowers are all starting to dry up and they are looking kind of sad.
I sure have enjoyed watching these flowers grow so tall and to see their big yellow faces every day. Now I will be able to watch the birds come and eat the seeds - except for James' seeds of course. :-)

Today we had sun in the morning and a cloudy afternoon. It was cool with light breezes and I had the windows open again.
I got a late start to the day because when I was just a block away from my house this morning coming home from my walk, I ran into two of my friends who were walking and stopped to talk to them. 40 minutes later we all parted and went home - a little late but happy. Always nice to spend a little time with friends. :-)
My basket of things to shred was getting pretty full so I got out the shredder and had some fun shredding. I filled up one huge shopping bag.
A couple of people have asked again about the strawberry sandwiches I like to eat. I just slice strawberries and put them on a slice of white bread, sprinkle a little confectioners sugar on them, put the other slice of bread on top and that's it. A glass of milk goes well with it. I have eaten these sandwiches all of my life.
I'm still reading Lisey's Story - I'll write my usual little review when I finish. It is taking me a while to finish as it has over 600 pages in it.
After supper Kenny and I went to Arundel Mills Mall and walked around the loop. The mall is one big oval and it is just under one mile. We went in and out of a few stores just looking around. We didn't buy anything but it was nice just walking and looking.
Kenny told me this story about what happened to one of his friends from work while her and her family were on vacation. Her husband was taking lots of pictures of their three children down at the pool at their hotel when the hotel security man came over to him. Someone had called security and told them to get down to the pool because they thought a pedophile was taking pictures of kids. Once he told him that the kids were his it was okay but still what a thing to happen. His wife thought it was funny but I think I would have been upset!!
Two Netflix came in the mail today - Dexter and Roots. We watched an episode of Dexter and had ice cream - I prefer the Weis brand better and look forward to getting my old standard of Chocolate Chip next time.
And so ends another day. Hope your Tuesday was a good one.
